Superintendent Dr. Anthony Mays’ Week Ahead – May 5, 2026

Dr. Mays

Thank you to Leslie Ayers, Coordinator of Digital Learning, Brian Gonzalez, Director of Digital Learning, and Dr. Gelyn Roble, K-6 Science Coordinator, for their leadership with this weekend’s Alief STEM Expo, which exposed students to robotics, coding, and rigorous intellectual opportunities to learn and play simultaneously. It was a packed house, which also allowed our choice campuses to share with families the dynamic opportunities available to them in Alief ISD! These opportunities set our students up for success! Thank you to Kristyn Cathey, Chief of Communications, and Dr. Jeannine Porter, Chief of Staff, for their leadership in facilitating this opportunity for more families to learn about and enroll here in Alief ISD.

Two of our Elsik High School students have qualified for the upcoming state track competition. Caius Shakes will be competing in the high jump, and Jamar Bremberry will be competing in the long jump. McKale Lee of Taylor High School also qualified for the state competition, and I am extremely excited for these students and their opportunity to compete on the big stage. Thank you to our coaches for supporting their growth and success on the track and field! They are representing Alief at a high level, and we are proud of them!

The Young Women’s Leadership School application is still open! This is a college-preparatory opportunity that will provide additional choices for our families. Please watch this video to learn more about:

The Power of the All-Girls School

As we increase the number of choice school opportunities, our families can find more information here about what is happening in Alief ISD.

I continue to be excited about this year! I am excited to “Be all in with Alief ISD!”

Celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week

Every day, Alief ISD teachers inspire curiosity, build confidence, and open doors to opportunity for our students. Thank you for the passion and dedication you bring to our classrooms every single day!

Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

In Alief ISD, our diversity is our greatest strength. During Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we celebrate and honor the contributions AAPI communities have made to our district and around the world. Learn more: https://asianpacificheritage.gov

In this episode of ImpactED, Kristyn Cathey, Chief of Communications, sits down with an inspiring group of education leaders to explore a powerful new partnership creating real opportunities for Alief ISD students. Featuring Dr. Anthony Mays, Superintendent of Alief ISD, Dr. Andree Osagie, Executive Director of Secondary Education, Deede Burke-Daffrey, Principal of Hastings Ninth Grade Center, and Dr. Catherine Horn, Dean of the University of Houston College of Education—this conversation highlights a shared vision for student success. Together, they discuss the launch of Cougar Academy, an innovative collaboration between Alief ISD and the University of Houston designed to create a clear, supportive pathway for Alief ISD students to pursue higher education and future careers. Learn how this partnership is opening doors, aligning resources, and empowering the next generation of learners.
