Superintendent Dr. Anthony Mays’ Week Ahead – May 11, 2026

Dr. Mays

Over the course of the last few years, we have watched and listened to our families as they explore a variety of avenues for our students to learn and grow. We have worked to be responsive as a district and to offer a menu of choices for families with different student needs that they are working to address. Alief 360 Virtual School is a tuition-free option for students who play sports and is available for families who may need to take advantage of a virtual learning opportunity.  Our virtual school will serve 9-12 graders, beginning with 9th and 10th grade students. You can learn more about virtual learning opportunities by contacting Dr. Alicia Kerr and by checking out this recorded information session! As families are making choices, we want you to know that you have everything you need right here in Alief ISD!

As we increase the number of choice school opportunities, our families can find more information here about what is happening in Alief ISD.

I continue to be excited about this year! I am excited to “Be all in with Alief ISD!”

Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

In Alief ISD, our diversity is our greatest strength. During Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we celebrate and honor the contributions AAPI communities have made to our district and around the world. Learn more: https://asianpacificheritage.gov

In this episode of ImpactED, Chief of Communications, Kristyn Cathey, sits down with an incredible panel of educational leaders to explore the launch of the new Alief360 online school program. Dr. Alicia Kerr, Director of Alief360, is joined by Dr. Alvia Baldwin, Director of Guidance & Counseling, Debbie Vincent, Coordinator of Virtual School Support, and Brian Gonzalez, Director of Digital Learning, for an insightful conversation about how this innovative program is expanding opportunities for students. Together, they discuss the vision behind Alief360, how the program supports diverse learning needs, and the ways virtual education is shaping the future of student success. Whether you’re a parent, educator, or community member, this episode offers valuable perspectives on flexible, student-centered learning in today’s digital age.

Congratulations to the AECHS-HCC Class of 2026

A remarkable milestone was celebrated as 88 students from Alief Early College High School earned their associate degrees from Houston City College before even graduating from high school. Through dedication, perseverance, and countless hours of hard work, these students achieved what many do not accomplish until years later—earning a college degree while still completing their high school education.

Superintendent’s MVPs Annual Luncheon

We celebrated our Superintendent’s MVPs, recognizing the dedication and hard work of those who go above and beyond for Alief ISD! A special congratulations go to Barrell Richardson, who is honored with our Community Contributor Award for his outstanding support and commitment to our community. Together, we continue to make a difference!

Alief360: A Full-Time Virtual School, Powered by Alief Taylor High School is now accepting applications for incoming 9th graders for the 26-27 school year. Students learn through a combination of synchronous and asynchronous instruction, taught by Texas-certified and will have access to a committed team who will monitor progress and support each student’s needs. Attending Alief360 is not choosing between online learning and school life. This is having access to both.

Our Purpose

The purposes of the International District are to enhance the physical, social and economic well being of the community. The District is empowered to finance projects related to public safety, mobility and transportation, environmental and urban design, and business and economic development.

Our Service Plan

Projects for the first ten years will focus on mobility and transportation, environmental and urban design, public safety, and business development.

Our Projects

The International Management District is undergoing a transformation from being the western extension of Houston’s Chinatown or, as some prefer, Asiatown, to a broader American and international community ideally suited to working, shopping, dining and living. To help bring about this change, the District has several major improvement projects underway or planned to enhance mobility, attractiveness and quality of life in the community.
