Superintendent Dr. Anthony Mays’ Week Ahead – May 26, 2026

Dr. Mays

As we close out this final week, I encourage everyone to celebrate each and every success afforded to us because these moments are fleeting and can come and go swiftly. I also want to encourage everyone to use these last few days to lay a foundation for next year. Our key to success next year lies in how we close out this year. Let’s finish strong, like our state champion McKale Lee. As she sprinted away from her competitors, widening the gap between 2nd place and her as the first-place finisher, it was clear she did not want to leave anything to chance! Don’t leave anything to chance! Be intentional, even in our last days of school! Let’s aim to make meaningful improvements and make positive, long-lasting impressions.

Alief ISD is offering a number of summer enrichment opportunities to help prevent summer slide. Take full advantage of the opportunity to continue to grow even during those summer days.

Summer Fest

Alief Band Camp

I see several schools and Alief ISD teachers are already sharing their summer reading list or hosting learning opportunities during the summer. This type of intention is what it will take to help our students maximize their potential!

Lastly, I want to encourage our seniors to take full advantage of our counseling services to avoid summer melt. We are here to help you in this important life transition!

As we increase the number of choice school opportunities, our families can find more information here about what is happening in Alief ISD.

I continue to be excited about this year! I am excited to “Be all in with Alief ISD!”

Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

In Alief ISD, our diversity is our greatest strength. During Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we celebrate and honor the contributions AAPI communities have made to our district and around the world. Learn more: https://asianpacificheritage.gov

Alief Teach Celebration

Last week, we celebrated two very special groups in Teach Alief: our seniors, who are completing this chapter of their journey, and our incoming 8th graders, who are just beginning theirs.

Teach Alief exists because Alief ISD believes in growing its own educators—teachers who understand our community, our students, and our responsibility to the future.

A special thank you to Andrea Lotsu, Erin Newman, Michelle Hodges, and Tracy Shakes for their outstanding leadership, dedication, and commitment to inspiring the next generation of educators. We are proud of all our students and excited to see the impact they will make in the future!

TIA Celebrations Across Alief ISD

More than 100 educators were recognized and celebrated for their dedication to student achievement, academic success, and educational excellence across Alief Independent School District. Their commitment to inspiring students, creating meaningful learning experiences, and supporting the growth and success of every child continues to make a lasting impact throughout the district. These outstanding educators represent the heart of Alief ISD, going above and beyond each day to empower students, strengthen school communities, and shape the future through education.
