Superintendent Dr. Anthony Mays’ Week Ahead – May 18, 2026

Dr. Mays

Thank you to all of our retirees, whom we honored and celebrated this past Friday. We know you will transition to another chapter, but you have impacted lives here in Alief ISD and will not be forgotten. We wish you well on your journey and know that we are here if you ever need to volunteer. Our Alief ISD Education Foundation offers a tremendous opportunity to continue supporting our students as a volunteer at the golf tournament, pickleball tournament, or a number of other worthwhile events, helping you stay connected with Alief ISD and continue supporting student success.

Congratulations to our state champion, Alief Taylor High School senior McKale Lee, who stamped her mark on the State Meet, unleashing an incredible late surge to claim the 6A Girls 800m State Championship with a time of 2:08.69. We are proud of you, Head Coach Karen Hawkins, and Assistant Coach Kristyn Williams. Just as our retirees are leaving their mark on Alief ISD, so have you!

Early voting has started. Do not forget to exercise your democratic right and get out there and place your vote!

As we increase the number of choice school opportunities, our families can find more information here about what is happening in Alief ISD.

I continue to be excited about this year! I am excited to “Be all in with Alief ISD!”

Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

In this episode of ImpactED, Kristyn Cathey, Chief of Communications, sits down with an inspiring group of education leaders to explore a powerful new partnership creating real opportunities for Alief ISD students. Featuring Dr. Anthony Mays, Superintendent of Alief ISD, Dr. Andree Osagie, Executive Director of Secondary Education, Deede Burke-Daffrey, Principal of Hastings Ninth Grade Center, and Dr. Catherine Horn, Dean of the University of Houston College of Education—this conversation highlights a shared vision for student success. Together, they discuss the launch of Cougar Academy, an innovative collaboration between Alief ISD and the University of Houston designed to create a clear, supportive pathway for Alief ISD students to pursue higher education and future careers. Learn how this partnership is opening doors, aligning resources, and empowering the next generation of learners.

From Setback to State Champion: McKale Lee Finishes on Top

One year ago, a devastating fall ended her season. This year, she made history.

McKale Lee, a senior at Alief Taylor High School, delivered an unforgettable performance at the UIL State Track & Field Meet, capturing the 6A Girls 800-meter State Championship with an impressive time of 2:08.69.

With an incredible late-race surge, McKale turned heartbreak into triumph, proving that resilience, determination, and perseverance can overcome any obstacle. Her journey from last year’s setback to this year’s state title is an inspiring reminder of what it means to rise stronger and never give up.

McKale’s achievement reflects not only her hard work and dedication, but also the spirit of excellence that defines Alief ISD. Congratulations, McKale! Your Alief ISD family is proud of you and cheering you on every step of the way.

Elsik Pre-Engineering Academy and Houston City College Forge New Partnership

Excitement filled the room as the Elsik Pre-Engineering Academy and Houston City College officially signed a new partnership agreement, marking an important milestone for students and the future of workforce development.

This collaboration will create valuable opportunities for aspiring engineers and innovators by expanding pathways to higher education, career readiness, and hands-on learning experiences. Through this partnership, students will gain greater access to resources and programs designed to prepare them for success in college and in high-demand careers.

The partnership reflects a shared commitment to empowering the next generation of leaders, problem-solvers, and innovators. The future is bright, and Alief students are ready to lead the way.

Celebrating Years of Dedication and Service

Congratulations to all of our incredible teachers and staff members celebrating 15 or more years of service in Alief ISD! Your dedication, passion, and commitment have made a lasting impact on generations of students and families across our community.

We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to all of our retirees for their years of service, leadership, and unwavering support of Alief ISD. Thank you for the difference you have made in the lives of so many. We wish you all the best in this exciting new chapter!
