2026 WINTER FREEZE EDITION: Vol. 8, Issue 3 – 1.29.2026
2026 WINTER FREEZE EDITION
Dear District F,

This past weekend, as freezing temperatures gripped Houston, District F faced a critical gap: none of the City’s 12 warming centers were located on the west side.  I couldn’t let that stand. My office took swift action, partnering with local faith organizations to open two warming centers and deliver essential resources to residents most vulnerable to extreme weather. See the coverage in CW 39

Thanks to Agape Christian Fellowship and The Church Without Walls – Eldridge Campus, the designated warming centers for District F,  we were able to provide warm, safe spaces for those in need. In addition, my team and the District F Hot Spot Team delivered 462 hot meals, distributed blankets and clothing, and reached more than 17 encampments, assisting 67 individuals and 5 pets. These efforts underscore a larger challenge: Houston’s affordability crisis and the systemic issues that leave many exposed during emergencies.

When temperatures drop, the reality of homelessness becomes even more stark. This is not just about emergency response—it’s about addressing the root causes.

Thank you to our partners WHAM, the District F Hot Team, SEWA, Wal-Mart, Agape Christian Fellowship Church, and Church Without Walls Eldridge.

Weather forecasts are calling for another round of overnight freezing temperatures through the region this weekend but we are ready with food and resources. Our team will hit the streets to deliver warms meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner on Saturday and Sunday to various encampments as well as resources from personal hygiene kits, hand warmers and winter socks to keep our unhoused warm.

If you’ve been asking, “How can I help?” — we invite you to continue supporting our donation efforts and you can also sign up to volunteer with my office here.

Consider what you or your loved ones would need to feel safe and secure in these conditions. That perspective helps guide the resources that make the greatest impact.

📍Donation Drop-Off Location:
Agape Christian Fellowship Church | 8400 Boone Road Houston, TX 77072 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Together, District F is showing compassion in action. Your contributions make a direct impact on the lives of our most vulnerable neighbors. Thank you for standing with our community during this time.

With gratitude,

Council Member Tiffany D. Thomas
