Vol. 8, Issue 4 – 2.18.2026
Dear Friends,

This one is short and sweet: we need your input!

We’re drawing attention to our upcoming Apartment Inspection Ordinance Community Meetings, hosted by me as Chair of the Housing and Affordability Committee and Mayor Pro Tem Martha Castex-Tatum, Chair of the Economic Development Committee. These sessions are critical to ensure we gather as much public feedback to ensure we get this right for Houstonians.

Check out the flyers below for details and choose the meeting that works best for your schedule—but most importantly, make sure your voice is heard!

Council Member Tiffany D. Thomas

Council Member Thomas joined Houston Public Media’s Hello Houston to discuss the proposed Apartment Inspection Ordinance and its impact on renters citywide. See the full segment above or a snippet here. Houston Public Media also previewed the upcoming community meetings here.

The first community meeting is this Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at the 📍Alief Neighborhood Center. Join us to learn more about the ordinance, share your concerns, and get your questions answered. Safe, quality housing should be the standard for every Houstonian—your voice matters.

Council Member Thomas spoke to KPRC2 recently, emphasizing the urgency of moving forward with the right apartment inspection ordinance to address quality of life and public safety concerns in multifamily properties. She shone a light on Ashford Court Apartments in District F, which has some of the highest calls to the Houston Police Department for service. Part of the problem, she said, is absentee ownership. See the full segment.
CITY COUNCIL
At Wednesday’s council meeting, Council Member Thomas delivered a strong message to developers: skipping the crucial step of community engagement when applying for the state’s 9% housing tax credits is unacceptable. Hear her full remarks above.
