Excellence in Action: Alief ISD National History Day Fair |
Alief ISD students showcased outstanding research, creativity, and storytelling at the National History Day Fair, bringing this year’s theme—Revolution, Reaction, and Reform in History—to life through compelling exhibits, documentaries, performances, websites, and papers. Kerr HS Student Wins State Art Honor |
We are thrilled to share that Kerr High School student Madison “Karma” Ryan has been selected as a state winner in the Texas Fish Art Contest for her stunning painting of the Guadalupe Bass. Karma’s winning artwork was also featured in the contest’s annual calendar, which promotes the conservation of native aquatic species across Texas. She is one of only twelve students statewide, representing grades PK–12—and the only student from Alief ISD—to earn this prestigious honor. |
Alief ISD Students Earn Citywide Honors in Clutch City Art Contest |
Students from O’Donnell Middle School and Kerr High School recently showcased their creativity and advocacy by competing in the Clutch City Art Contest, an initiative that uses student artwork to raise awareness about HIV and the importance of reducing the spread of the virus. Their powerful pieces stood out among submissions from across the city. The following students were selected as citywide winners: Finalists: Olivia Peters (8th grade), Elia Sofia Montejo-Gallo (8th grade), and Mason Bennett (8th grade) from O’Donnell Middle School, all taught by K. Smith; and Steven Tran (11th grade) from Kerr High School, taught by K. Reynolds. Honorable Mention: Valerie Nguyen (8th grade), from O’Donnell Middle School, taught by K. Smith. Artwork from the finalist students was reproduced on 5-foot banners and displayed at the METRO Mission Bend Transit Center. All winning students will also be recognized at an in-person awards reception on February 7. |

G.A.L.S. and Gowns Women’s Scholarship Fundraiser and Gala |
It’s not too late to show your support for the district’s first G.A.L.S. (Giving Adolescents Love & Support) & Gowns scholarship gala, sponsored by the Alief ISD Prevention & Safe Schools and Guidance & Counseling departments. This event will be held on Saturday, February 7, from 7-11 p.m. at Signature Manor and is adult-only. Proceeds from this scholarship fundraiser will support an upcoming graduating senior in the class of 2026 who is graduating despite familial hardships. Whether the selected recipient has lost an immediate parent, is currently in foster care, homeless, or otherwise being raised in an unconventional family, our goal is to ensure that they feel loved and supported as they navigate their last year of high school; we will do this by paying for all expenses related to their senior year.
