Superintendent Dr. Anthony Mays’ Week Ahead – December 15, 2025

Dr. Mays

This weekend, our Fine Arts and Enrollment Office hosted our first Holiday in the Park at Camden Park. Our principals from the Visual and Performing Arts and STEAM Campuses shared with our community why they are the absolute best choice for students and families in the Alief community. Our students sang and shared their talents, and our partner, Houston City College’s live jazz band, performed to highlight available music opportunities in higher education. We are fortunate to have a remarkable team of professionals serving here in Alief from PreK through college. Their work ensures that our students receive the best, nothing but the best, in exposure and opportunity here in Alief ISD. Check out the pictures here!

Throughout the school year, I am celebrating some of our veterans, Alief employees with 20 or more years of dedication, who are working behind the scenes on behalf of our Alief students and community. Recently, I recognized Doris Angarita-Ruiz, who leads our printshop here in Alief ISD and who is ALL IN WITH ALIEF ISD!

The Young Women’s Leadership School application is now open! This is a college-preparatory opportunity that will provide additional choices for our families. As we increase the number of choice school opportunities, our families can find more information here about what is happening in Alief ISD.

I am excited about this year! I am excited to “Be all in with Alief ISD!”

Alief ISD Superintendent Dr. Anthony Mays paid a special visit to the Print Shop to surprise Print Shop Manager Doris Angarita-Ruiz with the prestigious All in with Alief Award! For more than 20 years, Doris has been a driving force behind the scenes — ensuring the district’s printing projects are completed with precision, dedication, and record-breaking turnaround times. Her commitment keeps our campuses, departments, and community moving forward. Join us in celebrating Doris’ exceptional service, leadership, and commitment to Alief ISD!

Adopt a Kid 2025 Brings Joy and Holiday Cheer

Adopt a Kid 2025 was a wonderful success, filled with smiles, laughter, and unforgettable moments. The celebration featured a special visit from Santa, fun pastry baking activities, and even a surprise guest—a friendly ferret that delighted students and families alike. Thanks to the generosity and dedication of our volunteers and partners, this heartwarming event created meaningful holiday memories and brought joy to children across our community.

Miller Intermediate Murals Featured in TRENDS Journal

The Alief ISD Fine Arts Department is thrilled to share that the mural paintings at Miller Intermediate completed by the National Art Honor Society students were featured in the article “Fostering Collaboration and Community through Cross-Generational Murals” in the 2025 TRENDS Journal.

TRENDS is a peer-reviewed journal published annually in November by the Texas Art Education Association, highlighting articles that advocate for research and curriculum in art education. This feature highlights the significant impact of Dr. Keri Reynolds, lead of the Alief ISD High School Fine Arts Department, in fostering community-centered collaborations through visual art across Alief ISD. Congratulations to Dr. Reynolds on this well-deserved recognition!

A special thank you goes to the Fine Arts Department, teachers, and the talented students from Elsik High School, Hastings High School, TAFE, and the Collins choir for bringing energy and joy to the day, and to H-E-B and to Nothing Bundt Cakes Westchase for donating delicious treats.
