Our budget continues to be a focus, and enrollment and attendance are drivers of school funding. Whenever we lose a student and their family to a competing charter, Alief also loses financing to support our day-to-day operations. Over the last 10 years, we have seen a decline of over 7,000 students. We have also seen a decrease in federal funding. We are at work, marketing, and communicating with our families about the great opportunities we offer here in Alief ISD. We have great programs for all students to take advantage of, and we are responding to your feedback to continue strengthening every aspect of what we offer. Anytime you lose funding within a budget, it calls for adjustment. We will continue working to respond to our budget challenges with legislative advocacy on behalf of students and teachers and with the necessary budget adjustments in Alief ISD.

Taste of Alief will take place this Saturday. I hope to see you all there to celebrate our community’s beautiful diversity. The team has been working to collaborate with our community to deliver a celebration of the diverse cultures living and thriving here in Alief. While this is our inaugural event, we anticipate this being the first of many annual cultural celebrations for Alief ISD. See you Saturday morning for the parade!

Congratulations to our Teacher of the Year winners. You are true difference-makers in the lives of our students and their families. We appreciate your daily intention to support student success!
