Superintendent Dr. Anthony Mays’ Week Ahead – March 30, 2026

Dr. Mays

This Friday I had the wonderful opportunity to visit Kerr High School and witness our theater students perform the one act play, The Sweet Science of Bruising! Our students were phenomenal in the roles they played on stage and behind the curtain. There are some students that I have visited with outside of their role on stage that I did not recognize. They were so convincing in their portrayal of their respective characters, that I forgot who they were momentarily. I was Alief Proud of the demonstration of student learning that I witnessed. Excellence was on full display, from the lights, to the set design, all the way down to the costumes that students labored over tirelessly to prepare for their performance and competition!

In watching the fantastic work of the Kerr High School team I was reminded of the Colin Powell quote-“If you are going to achieve excellence in big things, you develop the habit in little matters.” There was no small detail ignored in the preparation or presentation of The Sweet Science of Bruising! Thanks to Principal Sarah Tones, Theater Arts Director Julie Ryan, and Theater Arts Assistant Director Jason Quach for setting a tone of excellence for our students!

The Young Women’s Leadership School application is still open, with 20 seats left in 6th grade and 20 in 7th grade! ! This is a college-preparatory opportunity that will provide additional choices for our families. Please watch this video to learn more about:

The Power of the All-Girls School

As we increase the number of choice school opportunities, our families can find more information here about what is happening in Alief ISD.

I continue to be excited about this year! I am excited to “Be all in with Alief ISD!”

Music education builds discipline, teamwork, and pride, and the sound of excellence is everywhere in Alief ISD. Join us in celebrating our incredible music educators and the students who make our halls come alive with melody.

In this episode of ImpactEd, Public Relations Specialist, Li Wen Su, sits down with Daniel Durán and Edgar Rentería—proud Elsik High School alumni and members of the 2018 Elsik Soccer State Championship team. Together, they reflect on the unforgettable season that led the Elsik Rams to a historic state title. Daniel and Edgar share behind-the-scenes stories from that remarkable year, the challenges the team faced along the way, and the teamwork, leadership, and determination that fueled their championship run. From intense matches to lifelong memories, this conversation highlights how dedication and school pride helped shape one of the most celebrated moments in Elsik soccer history.
