Alief ISD is filled with greatness. I was proud to see Elsik High School student Bissinatt Abdelasis compete at the 6A Texas State meet. I was happy to see Elsik High School head coach, Shea Rodriguez, who brought along students and other Elsik staff to cheer and support Bissinatt at the state race. On the home front, we also had Mrs. Jennifer Baker, Director of Career and Technical Education, and her team hosting our 3rd annual Holiday Market event, where our student work was sold to support more student opportunities. That morning, we also hosted ourBreast Cancer Awareness walk to support breast cancer survivors and future research for breast cancer.

Our community always has opportunities for parents and students to be engaged to learn more about Alief ISD and grow. I encourage everyone to volunteer and participate in something here at Alief ISD. We need your talents, gifts, and support to continue to work towards strengthening the Alief family and all that makes our community a great place.

Each month, I recognize one secondary student, two professionals, and two support staff as monthly MVP Award winners. We encourage all stakeholders to make a submission via the December MVP Award Submission form by November 13th.

Alief ISD is hosting community meetings to discuss Alief ISD’s Accountability and Strategic Plan. The second meeting is on Thursday, November 9, at Alief Kerr High School.

Tuesday is the time to exercise your civic duty. Do not forget that you can vote here in Alief at the Administration Building, 4250 Cook Rd, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. (South Parking Lot).

As a friendly reminder, everyone must re-enroll for benefits during open enrollment. Even if you are not making any changes, you must log in and re-enroll. Anyone who does not re-enroll by November 10, 2023, will not have benefits beginning January 2024. We will have onsite enrollers from October 30, 2023 – to November 10, 2023, for those who prefer to meet with someone in person. Please refer to the attached flyer for detailed information.

Texas law now requires school districts to distribute information to parents and guardians about the safe storage of firearms. This information will guide you to learn about options for the safe storage of firearms.

Please take some time to review the “Look Forward” section shared below for future events. I love seeing our students and parents out at our community events celebrating our students, and I look forward to seeing you out and about in the future.

Celebrations

The Houston Texans are thrilled to present an exclusive initiative to our district! Alief ISD staff and students’ families will have the opportunity to purchase discounted tickets and $5 per ticket will go towards the Alief ISD Education Foundation.

Alief ISD students and staff volunteers joined the Nature Conservancy on Saturday for the Jefferson Early Learning Center (JELC) Tree Planting and Nature Restoration Day! Texas Master Naturalists and our volunteers planted 40 native trees and shrubs and 100 native grass springs into the Jefferson Early Learning Center’s prairie. They also helped spread native wildflower and grass seeds, and added native pollinator plants in the JELC’s backyard to allow students to see caterpillars, butterflies, and hummingbirds right outside their classrooms.

Congratulations to Alief FFA students! Alief FFA Rabbit Raisers and Alief FFA Floral made Alief Proud! Our students placed in many categories!
