The Alief ISD Board of Trustees voted in favor of participating in the lawsuit against the Texas Education Agency (TEA) during their September 19th Board meeting. This will make the district the second district in the Houston area (Spring Branch ISD) and the first urban district in the Houston area to join the lawsuit.

The lawsuit was initiated and filed by Kingsville ISD, which is located near Corpus Christi, TX. Since then, more than 50 school districts have united and joined the lawsuit.

“We continue to be committed to meeting the needs of our students, faculty, and staff here in Alief,” Alief ISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Anthony Mays said. “We recognize TEA’s current practice of changing the game’s rules during the middle of the game could adversely impact our schools and community. In a time when public educators desperately need support, this action continues to make already challenging work more difficult by not acknowledging and respecting the hard work of our teachers and administrators.”

The lawsuit requests TEA halt the publication of this year’s accountability ratings to allow the school district to adapt to the revised sliding scale. This request would also coincide with the introduction of a revamped STAAR Test. The Alief Board of Trustees made their point clear. “Students and staff are expected to follow a defined set of rules and responsibilities,” the Alief ISD Board of Trustees said. “The same should be said for TEA. No one is above the law.”

ALIEF ISD VOTA PARA UNIRSE A LA DEMANDA CONTRA EL SISTEMA DE CALIFICACIÓN DE DESEMPEÑO DE TEA

La Junta de Síndicos de Alief ISD votó a favor de participar en la demanda contra la Agencia de Educación de Texas (TEA por sus siglas en inglés) durante su reunión de la Junta del 19 de septiembre. Esto convertirá al distrito en el segundo distrito en el área de Houston (Spring Branch ISD) y en el primer distrito urbano en el área de Houston en unirse a la demanda.

La demanda fue iniciada y presentada por Kingsville ISD, que se encuentra ubicado cerca de Corpus Christi, TX. Desde entonces, más de 50 distritos escolares se han unido a la demanda.

“Seguimos comprometidos a satisfacer las necesidades de nuestros estudiantes, maestros y personal aquí en Alief”, dijo el Dr. Anthony Mays, Superintendente de Escuelas de Alief ISD. “Reconocemos que la práctica actual de TEA de cambiar las reglas del juego en mitad del partido podría afectar negativamente a nuestras escuelas y a nuestra comunidad. En un momento en que los educadores públicos necesitan apoyo desesperadamente, esta acción continúa dificultando aún más un trabajo, ya de por sí difícil, al no reconocer ni respetar el arduo trabajo de nuestros maestros y administradores”.

La demanda solicita a la TEA que detenga la publicación de las calificaciones de desempeño (accountability ratings) de este año para permitir que el distrito escolar se adapte a la escala variable revisada. Esta petición coincidiría también con la introducción de una prueba STAAR renovada. La Junta de Síndicos de Alief dejó en claro su punto. “Se espera que los estudiantes y el personal sigan un conjunto definido de reglas y responsabilidades”, dijo la Junta de Síndicos de Alief ISD. “Lo mismo debería decirse de TEA. Nadie está por encima de la ley”.

Hội Đồng Quản Trị của Alief ISD đã bỏ phiếu thuận tham gia vụ kiện Cơ Quan Giáo Dục Texas (TEA) trong cuộc họp của Hội Đồng được tổ chức vào ngày 19 tháng 9. Hội Đồng Quản Trị Alief ISD tuyên bố: “Học sinh và nhân viên được mong đợi là sẽ tuân theo một bộ quy tắc và trách nhiệm cụ thể và rõ ràng. TEA cũng cần tuân theo đúng quy tắc đó. Không có bất kỳ ai được đứng trên luật pháp.”
