Alief’s Kerr High School Recognized as a
2022 National Blue Ribbon School

Alief’s Kerr High School is the only public high school in the greater Houston area to be named a 2022 National Blue Ribbon School. Kerr High School previously was named a Blue Ribbon School during the 2010-11 school year and again in 2016.

“I am so excited for families, students, and staff at Alief’s Kerr High School! This is the third time in the last 12 years that Kerr HS has received this prestigious award. This honor is not just given, it is earned,” said Gina Tomas, interim superintendent of Alief ISD. “This recognition is a direct result of the hard work of the entire Kerr community.  It affirms and validates the dedication to student achievement and success of not only the entire staff and student body but their families and community as well.”

Kerr High School is among only 31 schools in Texas and one of only 329 schools in the nation to be named as a 2022 National Blue Ribbon School. This award is based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.

“I applaud all the honorees for the 2022 National Blue Ribbon Schools Award for creating vibrant, welcoming, and affirming school communities where students can learn, grow, reach their potential, and achieve their dreams,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona. “As our country continues to recover from the pandemic, we know that our future will only be as strong as the education we provide to all of our children. Blue Ribbon Schools have gone above and beyond to keep students healthy and safe while meeting their academic, social, emotional, and mental health needs. These schools show what is possible to make an enduring, positive difference in students’ lives.”

National Blue Ribbon Schools serve as models of effective school practices for state and district educators and other schools throughout the nation. A National Blue Ribbon School flag gracing a school’s entryway or on a flagpole is a widely recognized symbol of exemplary teaching and learning.

“It is an honor to be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education for the third time as a National Blue Ribbon School. Kerr High School is a special place made up of hardworking students and staff in a supportive community and district. We are intentional in developing a positive family culture at Kerr and this recognition validates our work towards educating both the hearts and minds of our students,” said Vinson Lewis, principal at Kerr High School.
