Girl Power at the YMCA
Girl Power is a project aimed at empowering teenage girls through mentoring and structured group sessions. The overall project objective is to use positive youth development, which is an “approach that seeks to achieve one or more of the following; promoting bonding, social, emotional, and behavioral competence” (Catalano, Berglund, Ryan, Lonczak, & Hawkins). Positive youth development is used to improve participants’ commitment to education, and reduce delinquent behaviors such as teen pregnancy.
