This week, we will seek your input on the 2024-25 and 2025-26 instructional calendar options. To ensure our staff, parents, and community members have an opportunity to provide feedback, the Instructional Calendar survey will be posted from February 6-13th. The survey will be disseminated to staff via email. Parents for whom an email address is on record will also receive a survey. Community members (and parents who have not received an email) can access the Instructional Calendar survey online through the Alief ISD website.
Lunar New Year celebration, the biggest holiday in Asian culture, is centered around removing the bad and the old and welcoming the new and the good. Join the Houston International Community to celebrate the Annual Texas Lunar Festival this Saturday at Marshall Center for Advanced Careers (CTE). Let’s support our community members who will welcome the year of the Dragon by wearing red, gold, or yellow this week. Share your photos on social media using#AliefCelebratesLNY. While this year is our first year partnering with the International Management District for this celebration, we do not anticipate it being our last. Celebrate with us and volunteer here!
One of our strategic areas of focus is the Alief Family. In the spirit of family, we celebrate the diversity of our community by recognizing February as Black History Month. Our Public Public Relations team is helping us celebrate by remembering past contributions of our African American heroes and lifting the importance of celebrating our history to ensure a strong future. Follow us on social media for notable Black History Month facts as well as recognition of Alief Black History Month firsts.
Thank you to our counselors for always ensuring the Alief family’s needs are met. February 5-9th is recognized as School Counselor Appreciation Week. Let’s take care of our counselors and show them we appreciate them. Here are some ideas to let our counselors know how thankful we are for their role in Alief ISD.
The district is transitioning to a new website and newsletter, and we want to bring you along with us! Please sign up HERE to stay updated with all things Alief ISD!

Congratulations to the Alief ISD Purchasing department for earning the TASBO Purchasing Award of Merit for the 12th consecutive year! The Award of Merit was established in 2009 to recognize Texas school districts that are committed to following professional standards in the acquisition of goods and services. This year we were one of 77 districts in the state to earn it.
Kerr High School Fine Arts teachers Keri Reynolds and Julie Ryan achieved National Board certification! National Board certification is the highest and most respected professional certification in education. National Board certification was designed to develop, retain, and recognize accomplished teachers and to generate ongoing improvement in schools nationwide.
Congratulations to our January Scholar Athletes, Johanna Ajayi, a Hastings swimmer and Devine Obi, an Elsik basketball player. Johanna has only been on the team for the past two years, learned all four strokes and helped lead the girls relay team to a third place win amongst JV districts in 2022-23. Devine has been an active participant for four years, is a dedicated member of the basketball team, and a model student-athlete.
Congratulations to Hastings Bear, Melinda Winston, on setting the record and becoming the girls’ basketball team’s All-Time Leading Rebounder with 983 rebounds!
