We are currently engaged in the process of gathering feedback to support informing our strategic plan. Our strategic plan helps us to plan forward and strategize on how we can better meet the needs of our students. Your feedback is important to us! Focus groups are being conducted throughout the district and community to collect feedback and look for themes of importance to our community. Thank you to both the Superintendent’s Teacher Advisory Council and the Superintendent’s Student Advisory group who have already shared their thoughts. This feedback will be shared with our board to help support planning as we grow together.

Thank you, parents, for sharing the desire to see more summer programming to meet the needs of our students here in Alief ISD. I am grateful for our team that sprang together to add additional opportunities for students. While facing budget challenges, we must recognize our limitations and challenges while working diligently to meet our needs. The financial support needed to grow and sustain summer programming is an area where we will continue collaborating with our foundation to provide much-needed support.

Parents, if you get an invite from a charter school framed as an “invitation” or “acceptance” letter. Please know that the invitation is not coming from Alief ISD. We want all students living in Alief to attend Alief ISD schools. I am confident of our ability to meet the needs of our students. From our award-winning scholars attending top-tier colleges and universities nationwide to our students earning work-based certifications and entering the Houston job market, we meet all needs. Unlike many charter schools, we also meet the unique needs of students requiring special education services. Celebrations

Congratulations to Alief ISD’s 15 middle school and 23 high school speech and debate national qualifiers! Good luck in your national competitions this summer.

Eleven Hastings High School students were recognized for their community service work by the United Nations Association of the USA (UNA-USA) and InnerView in the 6th Annual Community Service Awards. Thank you for giving back to your community!

A big congratulations to the 89 Alief ISD students who graduated with their Associate’s Degrees from Houston Community College this year! These students earned college credits at no cost, while in high school. Way to go!

And finally, the TX-947 Elsik AFJROTC received its very first Distinguished Unit Award with Merit (DUAM)! The DUAM is HQAFJROT highest unit award based on overall unit accomplishment during an HQ inspection year. Congratulations on your hard-earned recognition!

Sincerely,

Dr. Anthony Mays
