On Monday, May 18, elected officials, the Houston Food Bank, members of the community, volunteers, and the press gathered at KIPP Academy Connect Primary School Campus to assist the Houston Food Bank to distribute food to the community.

International District Vice Chair, Fred Bhandara, used the occasion to announce a donation of seed money that will lead to at least $100,000 of funding for the Houston Food Bank. He and the Southwest Management District are each donating $15,000, while the Zoroastrian Association of Houston, of which he is a member, is donating almost $10,000, to be matched by Sysco, the Houston-based food distributor. Mr. Bhandara stated that “we wanted to make this offer because the need in the community is so great”. William Tayar, Strategic Gifts Officer of the Houston Food Bank, was on hand to accept the donation. He stated that “the Houston Food Bank is extremely grateful to Mr. Bhandara and the Southwest District for their generous donations”.

Another food drive will be held on May 30 at the Plaza of Americas at 11:00. Anyone wishing to volunteer to help with the food distribution are encouraged to contact the Houston Food Bank at  https://www.houstonfoodbank.org/ways-to-give/give-time/volunteerathfb.
