• Klentzman Intermediate orchestra student Pablo Gomez was awarded a $1,500 music scholarship from Music Doing Good. Only the top 20 scholarship recipients received the full scholarship. He will have the opportunity to perform at the University of St. Thomas in 2018.
  • Kerr High School had three orchestras participate in UIL Concert & Sight Reading.  The concert orchestra brought home its first ever sweepstakes. The philharmonic received superior ratings in sight reading and excellent ratings on stage. The cambiata received superior ratings on stage and excellent ratings in sight reading.
  • Hastings High School student Abdullah Agboola won a Special Award at the 2017 Exxon Mobil Texas State Science Fair from the Office of Naval Research. Agboola, Aika Mitchell (Alief Middle School) and Hakeem Werra (Hastings Ninth Grade Center) represented Alief ISD and the Houston region at the state science fair.
  • Alief Early College High School student Gabriel Adenaike has been recognized by Fuel Up to Play 60 in partnership with the NFL.  He has won a prize package recognizing his success to be active and healthy.
  • Youens Elementary teacher Tiffany Camacho-Montoya has been selected by the Kappa Kappa chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International to receive the Molly Och First Year Teacher Award. She is a proud graduate of Alief Early College High School.
  • Various Alief ISD staff members are finalists for the 2016-17 Sterling Shining Star awards. Jenice Kennedy (Miller), Kimberly Silas (Mata), Leah Plagens (Cummings), Janet Hughey (Budewig), Rosalind Burroughs (Budewig) and Karen Shiver (Cummings) were nominated because they have made a significant difference in the life of a student. Winners will be announced later this month and will be awarded a cash prize of $10,000 to be shared equally between the Shining Star recipient and the winner’s school.
  • Taylor High School teacher Thomas Randall received the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Claude L. Wilson Award.  He was recognized for achievement and service in STEM education at the high school level within the area of the South Texas section of ASME.
