• Hastings High School student Ebony Banks became the first student to graduate as a part of the Class of 2017. She is currently battling stage 4 cancer at MD Anderson. With support from Alief ISD students, staff, local media and the Alief community, Banks was able to meet her idol, Beyoncé.
  • Elsik High School students Chimi Abuede and Albert Rodriguez were named national art winners in this year’s Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.
  • Alief FFA students continue to shine at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. In the rabbit show, Kenny Ibarra (Taylor High School) won Best in Show, Best in Breed and Best in Opposite Breed for French Holland Lop. Maria Henderson (Elsik High School) won Best in Breed in Rex. Rhynnie Jackson (Taylor High School) won Best in Breed in English Lop.
  • Chambers Elementary raised $1,919.57 for Pennies for Patients to help support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
  • Hastings High School student Kai-Lee Valentine was selected to participate in the Greater Houston Area Girls Basketball Association All-Star game. The annual game selects the best female basketball players in Houston and surrounding areas. Hastings High School student Golden Vi-Ura was chosen to play at the Greater Houston Football Coaches Association All-Star Football Game in June. Vi-Ura will be the quarterback for the West Team.
  • Taylor High School student Leslie Garcia recently signed to play soccer at Texas College in Tyler. She will be pursuing an accounting degree.
  • O’Donnell Middle School AVID students, Lyna Pham and Genesis Vasquez, have been selected to represent Alief ISD at the annual Junior Achievement Hall of Achievement Gala. They will be representing 315,000 students from 600 schools in other school districts who are participating in Junior Achievement this year.
  • Alief Early College High School teacher Leann Looney has been invited to participate in the 2017 Centropa Summer Academy. At the Academy, they will be collaborating with teachers worldwide to create interactive and engaging lessons to teach the Holocaust to 21st century, multicultural students.
