Dear Key Communicators:

Today is the day that school districts in Texas release their community and student engagement ratings.

We want you to know that Alief ISD earned an Exemplary or Recognized rating in each one of the eight categories in the district’s first release of community and student engagement ratings.

The district earned an Exemplary rating in the categories of Fine Arts, 21st Century Workforce Development Program, Family and Community Involvement and Dropout Prevention. Alief ISD earned a Recognized rating in Wellness and Physical Education, Second Language Acquisition Program, Digital Learning Environment and Educational Programs for Gifted and Talented Students. Alief was also found to be Compliant in the Reporting and Policy Compliance category.

“The community and student engagement ratings will provide a much more comprehensive picture of the accomplishments of a school district than just a single test score,” said HD Chambers, superintendent of schools. “I do not believe test scores should be the only measurement used to determine how a school or district is performing. If a community truly wants to know if a school or district is meeting their expectations, the community and student engagement accountability ratings are a much more accurate and robust way of demonstrating a campus’s or district’s real story.”

The release of these ratings is required by House Bill 5 which was passed last year by the 83rd Texas Legislature. This legislation requires all districts to evaluate the district’s performance and the performance of each campus in regard to community and student engagement.
