This year, as a component of their Annual Campaign, the Alief Family YMCA of Greater Houston is recognizing community partners who through their contributions of time, talent and treasure provide opportunities for children and families in our community.
“To have partners as dedicated to service and strengthening communities as AISD and IMD are critical to our operations and meeting the needs and expectations of our community members”, says Kevin Kebede, Alief Y Community Executive Director. As a multiple year contributor to the Alief Y, the IMD has supported or underwritten programs such as: Y math tutorials, water safety workshops, apartment outreach and this year the newly established Girl Power. “Recognizing and acknowledging all that our partnerships mean was an honor and a no-brainer to our Board of Volunteers”, says Kebede.
Both organizations were recognized and awarded as Alief Y Community Partners of the Year at the Alief Y Partners Victory Celebration Monday, March 19 at the Y at 6:30pm. Vice Chairman of IMD Board of directors, Fred Bhandara accepted the award on behalf of the IMD.
The demands for services and outreach in 2011 were great and the Y anticipates even greater needs in 2012. Together we have ensured that the YMCA has opportunities to make a positive difference for kids, families and communities every day.
