Vol. 6, Issue 20 – 11.1.2024
Dear District F:

Please see the updates and opportunities below:

Sidewalk Ordinance Listening Session
I want to emphasize the importance of attending at least one of the scheduled sessions. I attended the first one in District F and noticed we needed more adequate representation from our neighborhoods. For ordinances to make sense, we need everyone at the table to provide feedback.

I cannot stress this enough.

The City of Houston Planning Department will hold another listening session on the sidewalk network ordinance. While most sidewalk repair funding for District F often comes through our office, residents must participate in shaping ordinances that impact our quality of life and neighborhoods. Take advantage of this opportunity to share your input. Details are here.

ELDRIDGE/WEST OAKS (SN17)
The Parkridge subdivision requested a streetlight at Eldridge and Westpark. The project is currently under design and is expected to start construction late 2024 or the top of 2025 pending the bid process and approval by the City Council. Continue to call 311 and report issues related to street lighting.

WESTCHASE (SN19)
Remember the old Brown and Root building on Bellaire Blvd and Beltway 8? Well, good news is coming to that area that will create jobs, increase affordable housing units for recent graduates and young professionals and intentional investment to the area. Read more about the project and let’s continue to support developers and entrepreneurs that choose to invest in our community with right values and principles. Learn more about the projecthere.

TXDOT has closed two inside lanes on BW8 from Harwin to Westheimer Rd to reconstruct the service road. These two lanes will be closed until February 2025. Please plan accordingly. Learn more here.

MIDWEST (SN20)
Piney Point: The $537,300 in federal funding for the new Rasmus Park Heritage House construction in Rasmus Park will come before the city council for a vote in November, with a tentative groundbreaking set for March 2025. I encourage the Piney Point Civic Club and Friends of Rasmus Park members to attend and share remarks during public sessions to support this initiative. This is an exciting moment for everyone involved. Congratulations!

ALIEF (SN25)
I am looking forward to celebrating with you at Alief Proud Day at LeRoy Crump Stadium from 10A-2P and after you are done, join me at the Alief International Fall Festival hosted by Vietnamese American Cultural Association at 13200 Bellaire Blvd at 4pm.

FILL THE FRIDGE INITIATIVE
Even though hurricane season is nearing its end, many families still feel the effects of Hurricane Beryl. As of October 30, my office has 52 Kroger gift cards ($75 each) for families and seniors impacted by the storm. Please contact us at [email protected] for more details. Include your address and contact information.

Vote 2024
We are in the midst of an energetic election season, and I strongly encourage you and your loved ones to participate in this civic duty. Visit HarrisVotes.orgfor polling locations near your home or work and review a sample ballot before voting. Election Day is Tuesday, November 5. Take someone with you, or feel free to use METRO, which provides free rides to your polling location.

Happenings in District F
I was a victim of identity theft in 2020 during the pandemic, and since then, I have taken steps to protect my identity and minimize theft. One effective method is shredding junk mail containing personal information. This is a great opportunity to protect your identity, declutter your home, and support one of our local partners. If you are a senior citizen or just in the mood for a more organized space, join me at one of the following events:
