As fall begins, remember that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Whether it’s a friend, a family member, or colleague, we’ve all seen the strength and resilience of loved ones facing breast cancer, and their courageous stories remind us that no one has to fight alone.

This month, we don’t just wear pink. We honor those who are battling breast cancer and remember those we’ve lost by taking action together as mothers, daughters, sisters, and friends. Encourage your loved ones to be health-conscious; early detection is crucial. I urge all women, especially those over 40 or with a family history of breast cancer, to schedule regular mammograms and perform self-examinations. I will be going for mine.

For more information, join us at Precinct 4’s Wear Pink Luncheon at Weekley Community Center on October 5th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. You’ll receive free educational resources and hear from medical experts as they share vital information about breast cancer risks, early detection and more.

We also know that it can be hard to access affordable, quality healthcare, and that regular check-ins with a medical professional from a young age are so important. That is why I’m proud to announce that Precinct 4 is opening its Baylor Teen Health Clinic on October 16th at the Bayland Community Center. In partnership with the Baylor College of Medicine, the Precinct 4 clinic will offer no-cost health services for children and young adults aged 13-24. Patients will have free access to services such as immunizations, sports physicals, sick visits, contraception, and more.

Just as taking care of our health and well-being requires commitment, so does building a stronger community. Meet your neighbors at our Alief Listening Tour on Saturday, October 19th at the Alief Neighborhood Center. Children and families can enjoy our Trunk-or-Treat and the unveiling of student artwork that will inspire new sculptures in the community. I’ll be there with my family!
