National Night Out began in the early ‘80s and 2.5 million residents across 400 communities in 23 states turned out to build community relationships.  Since then, National Night Out has grown to 38 million residents in 16,000 communities across the USA! In Texas, National Night Out is held on the first Tuesday of October and 344 cities participate. This event is intended to forge police-community relationships and raise awareness of community police programs such as Citizens on Patrol, Communicators on Patrol, Greater Houston Police Activities League (GHPAL), Positive Interaction Program (PIP) and other anti-crime efforts.

This year, the City of Houston’s Department of Neighborhoods (Mayor’s Assistance Office) and the Alief Super Neighborhood Council are hosting their 2nd Annual Alief Pre-national Night Out event to be held Wednesday, September 25th at the new Alief Neighborhood Center. Like other National Night Out events, their event will offer an opportunity for residents to get acquainted with each other and the police and fire personnel who serve them.

They have confirmed HPD Bomb Squad, SWAT, Mounted Patrol, Community Affairs Office, GHPAL, Helicopter display, Alief ISD schools, businesses, and government agencies participation.

They are providing a taco truck, hot dogs, snow cones, snacks, and waffles. They have a special guest from Alief Jeffrey Louis USA breakdancer that performed in the Olympics 2024.
