Vol. 6, Issue 14 – 08.02.2024
District F:

Thank you for your patience and participation as we work towards recovery post-Hurricane Beryl.

DEBRIS
Solid Waste is actively in our district, clearing debris. Most neighborhoods have received a first pass, and some are scheduled at the end of the week (Park Glen West, Ashford Park, and Wellington Park). No neighborhood will be skipped, as solid Waste debris teams will visit every route.

YES, this also means trash pick-up is delayed.

Check out the debris tracker created so you can see the status of debris in your neighborhood and citywide. As an aside, if your subdivision contracts private service, please consider including debris removal in your contract, as Houston is becoming a city of storms more frequently.

FEMA
The FEMA application deadline for individual assistance is August 15, 2024. This is incredibly important. You may be eligible for up to $750.00. Do not miss this opportunity to support your recovery. The application is available in multiple languages.

U. S. SMALL BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
On Monday, we hosted the Associate Administrator, Francisco Sanchez Jr., and his team to provide critical information from the SBA regarding business owners. There are 14 SBA Centers throughout the region, and business owners must meet vital deadlines to qualify for funding.

DERECHO
The deadline to apply for property damage is July 16, 2024.

The deadline to apply for economic injury is Feb. 18, 2025.

BERYL
FEMA has deployed “Disaster Survivor Assistance” (DSA) teams following Hurricane Beryl. These teams visit door-to-door to assist in disaster recovery. This week, DSA teams will be in the following zip codes: 77033 (Sunnyside, South Park), 77048 (Schnur Park), 77047 (Cloverland), 77045 (Brentwood Park), and 77051 (Myrtle, Brookhaven).

DSA teams help residents apply for assistance, review applications, and identify unmet needs. They focus on underrepresented populations and support community outreach. Mobile units with Wi-Fi may accompany DSA teams. Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) provide face-to-face assistance, including help with applications, status updates, and other recovery services.

The deadline to file for property damage is Sept. 10, 2024. The filing deadline for economic injury is April 14, 2025. As we progress through recovery and resume normal operations, I will share an updated council district service funds tool to improve tracking and ensure a more cohesive review of proposed projects.

August 12 is the first day of school for Alief and Houston ISD. There are several back-to-school drives throughout the area that offer various resources.

Council Member Tiffany D. Thomas
