The International Management District (IMD) is excited to announce the launch of its new Business Improvement Grant (BIG) program.

What is the Business Improvement Grant Program?

The BIG program is a reimbursement-based initiative that offers a 50% match, up to a maximum of $10,000, for exterior improvements on commercial properties within the International Management District.

Eligible Improvements

  • Parking lot improvements

  • Power washing, landscaping, and signage
  • Lighting
  • Facade improvements

How to Apply

To make sure that you have the best access to the BIG program funds, the district has developed an easy-to-apply process. Here is a short rundown of what to expect. The full program description and application can be found here.

  • Step 1: Download and complete the short two-page application form available on the IMD website.
  • Step 2: Gather and submit copies of detailed estimates from your chosen contractor(s).
  • Step 3: Take and provide current, high-quality pictures of the site, clearly showing the areas to be improved.
    If applicable, you’ll want to include:

    • Color swatches or digital renderings for painting projects
    • Landscaping overlays or design plans for greenery improvements
    • Architectural drawings for significant structural changes
  • Step 4: Submit your completed application package to the International Management District office, in person, by mail, or via email.

Application Review and Approval

Once you submit your application, the IMD Economic Development Committee will review everything to ensure that you fit the eligibility requirements and that your proposed project aligns with the goals for improving the district.

The full IMD board will give final approval during their next scheduled meeting. You will then receive notification of approval or denial, typically within 2-4 weeks. Upon approval, you will have 60 days to commence the project and six months to complete it!

What Is The Reimbursement Process?

So, how can you get reimbursed for your project with the BIG program? Once your approved project is completed, follow these steps to receive your reimbursement:

  1. Submit copies of paid invoices, canceled checks, and/or credit card receipts to demonstrate that all project costs have been paid in full.
  2. Provide high-quality “after” photographs of the completed work. These should showcase the improvements made to your property.
  3. Upon verification, the IMD will process your reimbursement for the approved funding amount (remember, this is 50% of your project costs, up to a maximum of $10,000).
  4. You’ll receive a single payment reimbursement for the approved amount.

As part of the program, the IMD will provide you with a banner acknowledging your participation in the Business Improvement Grant program. Display this banner prominently in your storefront window for at least three months. This will help recognize your contribution to improving the district and promote the program to other businesses.

Plus, your company and project will also be recognized as a program recipient on the IMD website, e-newsletter, and social media platforms, with before and after photos showcased!

Program Budget and Availability

The International Management District has allocated $100,000 for this inaugural year of the BIG program – with plenty of opportunities for those funds to grow in future years.

However, the actual number of grants awarded may vary depending on the size and scope of individual projects. Funds will be distributed to qualified applicants on a first-come, first-served basis until the annual budget is exhausted.
