DISTRICT F NEWS AND UPDATES
STUDENT BLACK HISTORY MONTH DOCUMENTARY PROJECT
On March 7th, two remarkable 9th-grade girls from the AWTY International School, guided by teacher Pamela Dorsey, invited Council Member Thomas for their Black History Month video documentary project that aims to capture the personal stories and unique impact of members of Houston’s vibrant Black community. Their enthusiasm and empathy shone brightly as they engaged with Council Member Thomas, capturing stories that will resonate for years to come. 
AARP #3264 BOARD MEETING
On March 6th, AARP #3264 held their board meeting which featured Council Member Thomas as an invited speaker. She shared valuable updates on ongoing projects in the area. Members had the opportunity to engage with CM Thomas, asking questions and gaining insights into community initiatives. You too can receive up-to-date information in your zip code atEngageHouston.
On March 6th, hosted in the City Hall’s Legacy Room, Council Member Thomas held the Inaugural International Human Trafficking Awareness Reception. An overwhelming turnout in support from Consular Generals from various countries graced the event, showcasing a global solidarity against human trafficking. A special appreciation goes to Herbert Espinoza, Consular General of Costa Rica and Dean of the Consular Corp. of Houston, for his invaluable support. Additionally, we were honored to hear remarks from YMCA International, an integral organization located right here in District F, emphasizing the importance of community collaboration in our fight against human trafficking.
The Indonesian Women Entrepreneurs Network (IWEN) held a networking event at the Alief Neighborhood Center on February 5 and Councilmember Thomas was honored to be the keynote speaker. District F is one of the most diverse districts in the country and we’re honored to visit with all of our neighbors.
OUR TOWN: ALIEF/WESTWOOD
KPRC 2 has launched a new series called Our Town to highlight different neighborhoods in Houston. Their first stop is none other than Alief/Westwood. Councilmember Thomas spoke with the reporter at Wazobia Market about the vibrant Nigerian community on the west side. Gohere to read more and learn more about the rich diversity in our District.
