Vol. 6, Issue 3 – 02.23.2024
Dear Friends,

It has been several weeks since I provided an update from the District F office, and many changes come with a new administration and a new year. However, our efforts on the west side remain steadfast.

Here are a few neighborhood updates:

Alief: Join me on February 27 at the Alief SN 25 monthly meeting, where I will share updates about efforts to address homelessness in District F.

Westhollow Townhomes: Your speed cushion application was submitted and is currently being reviewed for a cost estimate. Once the cost estimate is received, my office will be notified of the amount and will offer approval. The following notification will be a public comment period; depending on the feedback of area residents, the project will be scheduled for construction. For broad awareness, an official notice will be shared via the newsletter, HOA, and social media.

Parkridge: A resident has submitted a speed cushion on behalf of the neighborhood. We must ensure this is a cohesive request that includes the entire neighborhood, not one or two streets. Once processed, a public comment period will be provided for feedback. Stay tuned for more information soon. Also, the street light request on Eldridge and Westpark is in the design phase and should be installed in 2024—more details to come.

Westchase Forest Townhomes:  The story featured on ABC13 regarding the water leak is routed to Houston Public Works, and a work order was requested in January 2024. My office will provide updates once we receive a timeline for completion. Please note the leak is listed as a priority. For questions or additional concerns, reach out to my office.

On Thursday, KPRC visited the District to highlight flooding concerns and the pathways available to mitigate resident and business owners’ concerns. Watch the clip here. Also, please remember the SWAT project budget was increased to $3M to allow for more drainage improvements. Please visitEngageHouston.org for an extension listing of projects, including – streets, drainage, capital improvements, and wastewater.

I plan to provide an extensive update on HPW projects in District F and their status in the following newsletters. Stay tuned.

2024 is off to the races, and I want to remind you about upcoming initiatives in District F that I hope you will save the date and share with your neighbors:

March 6, 2024: Inaugural Human Trafficking Awareness Reception at Legacy Room (By Invite Only).

March 2024: District F Bike Ride; several community members and partners are working with us to make this a reality. Stay tuned for more information. I am excited about this effort to travel to our District, visit our great parks, and get a good workout.

March 2024: Capital Improvement Plan Meetings
I will spend more time on this in the coming weeks, but please stay alert to the notifications regarding CIP projects – especially Catalina Square, Huntington Village, Briarmeadow, and various wastewater projects in District F. Learn more about the history of CIP projects and slated items in the past. This is a very important public meeting and I hope you will join us when the date is released.

April 2024: Save The Date, 2nd Annual District F Deed Restriction Workshop. This year, after community feedback, we will break out topics and resources related to yard parking, civility ordinance, transfer of death deeds, and trespassing affidavits. Stay tuned for me.

June 2024: 4th Annual Summer of Safety – TBD

Finally, as we welcome the spring weather, please take the time to enjoy the Houston Zoo. Contact the District F Office and request up to 5 tickets per household. Note: District F residents/addresses are prioritized.Sincerely,

Councilmember Tiffany D. Thomas

TOWN PARK STREET VENDORS
On Friday, February 2nd, Councilmember Thomas invited Fox26 to tour the illegal street vendors along Town Park Drive. Although this area has been redistricted out of District F, our office has been working with the property owners, Houston Police Department and the Houston Health Department for over a year to remedy the situation to no avail.

The Indonesian Women Entrepreneurs Network (IWEN) held a networking event at the Alief Neighborhood Center on February 5 and Councilmember Thomas was honored to be the keynote speaker.
