DISTRICT F NEWS AND UPDATES
CRIME STATS DOWN IN DISTRICT F
HPD provided the latest crime stats and it shows once again that crime is down across the city. Citywide, violate crime is down 7% and non-violent crime is down 2% compared to this time last year. In District F, violent crime is down 10% and non-violent crime is down 7%.

We thank HPD and all public safety partners for their work to make our communities safer. Councilmember Thomas has funded overtime efforts for District F’s Westside and Midwest HPD stations, launched a summer public safety series and works year-round to make our streets safer.

CROSSWALK RESTRIPING UPDATE
Klentzmann Elementary Crosswalk - Before
Councilmember Thomas initiated the restriping of crosswalks in front of District F schools at the end of October. As of November 30, 7 of 31 crosswalks have been completed, including: Betty Best Elementary, Elisk 9th Grade Center, Klentzmann Elementary, and Martin Elementary. RECEIVES PROCLAMATION

On November 14, Councilmember Thomas joined her fellow members of the Houston (TX) Chapter of The Links, Inc. for a proclamation recognizing their ongoing efforts in the fight against human trafficking. Houston Chapter Links President Lorraine Winslow surprised Mayor Sylvester Turner with a Champion Award for his superb efforts and dedication to the campaign against human trafficking. Click here for more information on the Houston (TX) Chapter of The Links, Inc.

NLC CITY SUMMIT IN ATLANTA
Councilmember Thomas represented Houston at the 99th National League of Cities (NLC) City Summit in Atlanta on November 17. Councilmember shared her expertise on the panel “Governance Strategies to Improve Local Homeless Response Systems.” More than 7,500 representatives from cities across the nation attended the summit, making it the largest on record. Click here for more information.
HARMONY PUBLIC SCHOOLS VISIT
Councilmember Thomas was honored to visit and speak with Service Leadership Society (SLS) at Harmony Public Schools on November 28. She had the opportunity to share her insights on service and leadership and learn from these extraordinary young leaders, as well. We’re happy to report that the SLS group passed their bill at the SLS State Conference in Austin.
BLACK ENTREPRENEURS WEEK
On November 29, Councilmember Thomas received the “Unlock Her Power” Award from Black Entrepreneurs Week. The weeklong conference celebrates Black entrepreneurship, empowers local underrepresented communities, and fosters entrepreneur-building initiatives. Click here for more information.
VIETNAMESE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE EVENT
Councilmember Thomas spoke about Vietnamese American Business in Houston at the inaugural Vietnamese Chamber of Commerce event on December 2. District F is home to large and vibrant Vietnamese community of residents and businesses. Thank you to Chamber Chairman Peter Pham for the invitation. Go here to learn more about the chamber.
HOUSTON SHAOLIN TEMPLE RECEIVES PROCLAMATION
Councilmember Thomas, on December 5, proudly presented a proclamation to District F’s Houston Shaolin Temple. Master DaSifu plays a pivotal role in the community and will soon be partnering with Alief ISD to offer a martial arts after school program.
WHAM THRIVE CAMPAIGN PRESS CONFERENCE
In the spirit of community and holiday cheer, District F staff Kathy Reece and her family recently attended the Energy Corridor Annual Tree Lighting Celebration. The event, held on December 7th, brought together residents, local businesses, and community leaders for a joyous evening filled with dazzling lights and festive activities.
WHAM THRIVE CAMPAIGN PRESS CONFERENCE
Councilmember Thomas joined leaders from District F’s West Houston Assistance Ministries (WHAM) on December 8 for a press conference about the THRIVE Campaign progress. The campaign launched in May with the aim of raising funds to cover the costs of helping 5000 families over 12 months. Councilmember Thomas encouraged local chambers of commerce and philanthropic organizations to remember WHAM this giving season. Visit the WHAM website to learn more.
