| The Solid Waste Management Department is experiencing delays in yard waste collections across the City. After assessing these routes, adjustments have been made to move resources from one service center to others, supplementing personnel and equipment. They expect crews to be working through the weekend to collect these routes.
However, all residents have the option to take their yard waste to one of the six Neighborhood Depositories across the City.Click here for more information. |

STREETLIGHT AND TREE CANOPY SERVICE

| Urban Forestry has begun servicing streetlights and overgrown tree canopies in District F. In some cases, the trees are blocking the streetlights. In other cases, the streetlights are out or are too dim. We need your help to identify additional areas of concern. Click here to submit a service request form for your street. |

PUBLIC HEARINGS
The property at 3916 Arc Street in Jeanetta Courts has requested a replat. The purpose of the replat is to create two (2) reserves. Pursuant to the City of Houston’s Code of Ordinances, Chapter 42 the Planning Commission has established a public hearing date for this item:

There is also a public hearing for the property near 2023-2234 Kirkwood Crossings. The Planning and Development Department has received a subdivision plat application with a variance. Request for a property located along and west of S Kirkwood Road and north of Bissonnet Street. The Houston Planning Commission will hold a public hearing: Thursday, October 19, 2023, beginning at 2:30 p.m.

She was joined by fellow Councilmembers Amy Peck (District A) and Mary Nan Huffman (District G) for a lively discussion about government infrastructure, civic engagement, and answering the call for public service. | On October 7, Councilmember Thomas hosted Brian Vanicek, the Honorary Consul General of the Czech Republic, and his wife at the 2023 Consular Ball. The white-tie gala honors the 90-plus countries’ consulates and the international communities that call the Houston area home. The event has a rich history, which spans over six decades. The ball is a key gathering of Houston’s government, economic, commercial, scientific, and cultural leaders, connecting the city’s diplomatic community with business and civic leaders. | On October 6, Councilmember Thomas attended the annual Mayor’s Proud Partner Awards luncheon to support District F resident and Clean City Commissioner Dr. Alan Steinberg. The ceremony–hosted by Keep Houston Beautiful, the City of Houston’s Clean City Commission–recognizes the efforts of individuals, businesses, and community groups who work to enhance Houston’s landscape through awareness, beautification, conservation, and environmental enhancement projects. | On October 5, Councilmember Thomas attended the annual Texas Municipal League Conference and Exhibition in Dallas. The event is one of the nation’s largest gatherings of local government leaders. The two-day conference attracts thousands of delegates from more than 300 cities, including mayors, council members, city secretaries, city managers, and city department executives. NATIONAL NIGHT OUT IN DISTRICT F

| On October 3, Councilmember Thomas attended the National Night Out festivities for District F. Despite the rain, area residents came out to show out. From the Contemporary Westheimer Townhome Association to the Tanglewilde Civic Club, from Park Glen to Ashford Park and Westpark Village –District F residents organized, cooked, played, and socialized to help raise awareness of public safety and the needs of their community. | On October 3, Councilmember Thomas attended the ribbon-cutting celebration for the new Kelsey-Seybold Eldridge clinic. The new facility will expand healthcare access and services for West Houston residents. BEAUTY BEYOND BREAST CANCER
2023 SURVIVORS FASHION SHOW & DINNER

| On October 1, Councilmember Thomas kicked off Breast Cancer Awareness Month by giving a very personal keynote address at the Beauty Beyond Breast Cancer 2023 Survivors’ Fashion Show and Dinner. The joyous and entertaining event featured cancer survivors strutting their stuff on the runway and proving to the world–and themselves–that they can still turn heads.
Beauty Beyond Breast Cancer provides a private and serene atmosphere where women can come to select a free wig, receive complimentary salon services, and learn makeup application, all while surviving the effects of cancer treatments. Click here for more information. |

| On September 23, Councilmember Thomas attended the Women in Operations luncheon. Women in Operations is a global initiative established to promote a balanced and inclusive workforce where men and women partner for personal development and business success.
The initiative is centered on five core pillars:
- Mentoring and coaching creates a pipeline for women in operations and supports career development
- Networking to create opportunities to meet and learn
- Education and communication leverages internal training platforms and encourages collaboration and learning
- Metrics to help us measure and drive continuous improvement
- Recruiting and retention enables us to attract more women, as well as retain top talent.

HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH SPOTLIGHT:
BREAKING BREAD SATURDAYS
|

| As Hispanic Heritage Month comes to a close, District F would like to spotlight Breaking Bread Saturdays. Breaking Bread Saturdays’ mission is to uplift communities in need. During these events, the community gathers for a day filled with joy and togetherness. Family-friendly games, DJ performances, and live music contribute to the festive atmosphere, accompanied by sponsor booths and engaging activities for children. Operating across various parks in the Southwest Houston area, Breaking Bread Saturdays provides vital support to underserved communities by offering essential resources such as water, non-perishable food items, clothing, shoes, Bibles, and warm meals during their events.
The founders — Perro B, CEO of High Vida Records, and Jon Guevara, CEO of Latin Touch Records – share a dedication to making a positive impact on the neighborhood which led them to create an initiative that resonates deeply with the community.
So District F, let’s salute and thank Breaking Bread Saturdays for helping entertain and feed our community.

RAISING AWARENESS

| On September 25, Larry Greer passed away after a long battle. He was a hero, a role model, a mentor, a friend, and a father figure to many. A proud member of the Osage Nation, he served as the president of the Bellaire West HOA. Larry believed in the youth of tomorrow, community, and family. He will surely be missed by all.
On October 10, Centrell Reed spoke on behalf of the International Entertainment Partnership; raising awareness of the organization and encouraging support for future events, campaigns, and endeavors. Click herefor more information.
On October 15, Danielle Saizan Houston will host a benefit brunch for her organization, the Angel Babies Matter Network. The wonderful, joyous news of a pregnancy can quickly turn into a nightmarish, isolating experience for some. Stillbirth affects about 1 in 175 births, and each year about 24,000 babies are stillborn in the United States. Black and Native American families experience stillbirth 2xs the rate of other families. Angel Babies Matter Network provides comfort to moms of Angel Babies and is a resource to families.
