Congratulations to two of Alief ISD’s rock stars. Dr. Brotherton and Alief Early College are working hard to meet the needs of students here in the Alief community. Their work was recently recognized by Niche as the #1 standout high school in Texas. The team works tirelessly to challenge our students, and 84% of the parents polled said teachers give engaging lessons, and 90% agree that teachers genuinely care about our students. Our teachers and administrators are the key to student success. Dr. Brotherton has built relationships and a culture that allows Alief students and the professionals in her care to thrive.

Coach Shea Rodriguez at Elsik High School is focused on building a winning team culture. “Considering Elsik posted a 5-43 record in its previous five seasons, this year’s progress is almost electric,” Coach Rodriguez said. “The Rams were 3-32 in district play from 2018 to 2022, and they were 1-20 in their last 21 district outings.” The stands are crowded, and the Rams are off to a 3-0 start. On the field and in the classroom, Coach Shae and Dr. Brotherton show that leadership matters and that building a strong culture is vital for both teams at Alief Early College and the Elsik High School football team.

Happy National Principals Month to all of our principals. You all make miracles happen daily, and we appreciate each of you. October 5th-9th will allow for a few days of rest. Please take some time to recharge your battery for the months ahead.

Gabriel Avellaneda’s performance on the AP Spanish Language and Culture exam in May 2023 was so superior that it falls into a rather select category. Advanced Placement exams are scored on a scale of one to five. Gabriel not only received the top score, but was also one of only 247 students in the world to earn every point possible on the AP Spanish Language and Culture exam; receiving the maximum score on each portion of the exam. This outstanding accomplishment is likely a direct reflection of the top-quality education being offered at Hastings High School. We applaud Gabriel’s hard work and his AP teacher responsible for engaging students and enabling them to excel in a college-level course!

Alief Independent School District is proud to announce that Alief ISD Board of Trustees President Dr. Darlene Breaux has been selected as the 2023 National Alliance of Black School Educators School Board Member of the Year! This award will be presented to Dr. Breaux on December 2nd in New Orleans, at the NABSE national conference.

Congratulations to our Superintendent’s MVP Awards winners! Each month, one secondary student, two professional and two support staff will be selected as an MVP Award winner by their peers. These winners are chosen based on evidence of their support of customer service, and positive climate and culture in the district, and they will be celebrated during our next regular board meeting.

We encourage all of our stakeholders to submit a November MVP Award Submission by October 13th.
