Next week we officially celebrate our teachers and staff for Staff Appreciation Week. But every day should be an opportunity to show appreciation for our educators and their focus on building up our future generations. Can you imagine a society where a free and public education did not exist? We are fortunate to have teachers who embrace the art and science of educating students. Check out Tesia Adesanya as she shares her story as an educator.

Next week everyone will receive a coffee mug and if I could stuff the mug with 40k extra to show you how much we value you, I would. Just a reminder, in September, Alief ISD will provide $1,500 additional dollars to eligible employees, to help with inflation. In our efforts to appreciate our educators, we are working collaboratively with our community stakeholders and business partners and many will be volunteering on May 9th as we help cool things off with ice cream.

Our society can’t do enough to show our appreciation for the work that educators do daily. Below are some ideas for the community to support an Alief School near you.

  1. Drop a kind note off to a teacher and let them know you appreciate them.
  2. Volunteer at a campus and provide additional support during lunch and passing periods.
  3. Provide lunch or light snacks for a campus

Celebrations

Congratulations to the nine Taylor High School choir students qualified for state during the annual Solo and Ensemble. Way to go!

Also congratulations to Jefferson Early Learning Center teacher Cathy Delamore who competed in the Boston Marathon recently which was sponsored by district business partner CITGO. Amazing job!

And finally, Elsik High School student Anamercedes Sanchez was spotlighted by FOX 26’s Making the Grade segment. She is a two-sport athlete, the manager of the baseball team and a star student. See the segment here.

Sincerely,

Dr. Anthony Mays
Superintendent
