The International Management District knew that the official opening today (Jan. 14, 2023) of the City of Houston’s Alief Neighborhood Center had been enthusiastically anticipated; our article in June about the final stages of construction has been one of the most popular items on our website.
District committee member and longtime community activist Barbara Quattro (in white coat) spoke at the official opening today under the arm of Mayor Sylvester Turner. To their right were U.S Rep. Lizzie Fletcher and State Rep. Hubert Vo; to their left, Council Member Tiffany Thomas.
The $52 million new public facility at 11903 Bellaire Blvd. includes workspace for employees of city Health and Human Services and Parks and Recreation, and a public library as well as meeting rooms and athletic facilities.
The surrounding 37-acre park includes soccer fields, tennis courts, football fields, a baseball field, a skate park, an art garden, an outdoor pool, a playground and an event lawn.
