Vol. 3, Issue 20 – 08.19.22
Dear District F:

This week’s newsletter will focus primarily on promoting Saturday’s 2nd Annual District F Career Fair. What initially started as a response to get people back to work after the pandemic’s peak has evolved into one of the largest career fairs hosted by a council member in recent years.

If you are up early on Saturday morning, I will be promoting the event on KTSU 90.9 at 7 AM. Watch me on Facebook Live or listen on your radio.

Our event includes 5,000 jobs with wages starting at $15.00 an hour and 60+ vendors; today, nearly 800 individuals are registered and prepared to attend. Social media training will be every hour, and a firm will provide professional headshots at no cost. If you are interested in re-entering the job market – please consider attending. You might be surprised what and who you encounter. Check out our flipbook with a listing of jobs available.

Below you can review agenda items related to our district and city – most notably the recent vote to place a bond election on the November 2022 ballot. I voted in favor. NOTE: Bonds do not increase your taxes, and projects funded by the bond do not include streets and drainage per Ordinance No. 2011‐254.

Lastly, I had a backpack drive scheduled for August 20 after the job fair. Still, with the anticipated thunderstorms, Saturday, I and community partners have decided to deliver the 500+ backpacks and supplies to areas schools instead of asking families to risk driving in the weather: Emerson, Piney Point, Briarmeadow Charter Elementary, and the Alief ISD Education Foundation. BIG THANKS to DJ MR ROGERS, Houston Metropolitan Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc, Mansa Musa Inc, Heads Up Houston, Inc for your willingness to support the community and provide resources to families that have critical needs.

See you Saturday!

Sincerely,

Councilmember Tiffany

Agency / Partner Survey for the Freeze – Winter Storm Uri (DR-4586)

The City of Houston could receive funding to address the impacts of Winter Storm Uri that affected Texas in February of 2021 (the 2021 Freeze). To receive this funding, the City must assess the storm’s impact and unmet needs on the community and develop an Action Plan. The Action Plan will then serve as the grant application.  This survey will help the City understand the storm’s impact on organizations that serve low- and moderate-income and other vulnerable Houstonians and the broader community.  The form will remain open until August 12th at 11:59 PM.

Houston Freeze Survey – Winter Storm Uri (DR-4586)
