Alief ISD Board of Trustees Name Interim Superintendent

The Alief ISD Board of Trustees approved the appointment of Gina Tomas as the District’s Interim Superintendent at the Board’s regular workshop on August 2, 2022.

“The Trustees are pleased to welcome Gina Tomas back to Alief ISD,” says Board President Ann Williams. “Ms. Tomas will continue to provide the strong and stable leadership Mr. Chambers has provided and will maintain the District’s initiatives during the 2022–23 school year, as the District searches for its next Superintendent.”

Gina Tomas knows that successful learning opportunities happen for students in the Alief Independent School District each day. She spent over 30 years serving the students, staff, and community of Alief ISD. After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin, she began her teaching career as a first grade teacher at Smith Elementary. Ms. Tomas went on to pursue a Master of Educational Leadership at Prairie View A&M University and became an Assistant Principal at Martin Elementary and Rees Elementary.

She served as the Principal at both Rees Elementary and Hastings Ninth Grade Center prior to assuming the role of Deputy Superintendent of Instructional Services and Public Relations. Ms. Tomas is also familiar with the role of Interim Superintendent, as she served in this same capacity several years ago for Alief ISD.
