We’re quite excited about the upcoming IFestUSA and the Asian-American Pacific Islander portion of the event May 28 at Discovery Green.  There are three things that will be highlighted:  Honoring UNESCO, AAPI Heritage Month, and a jazz concert.

The AAPI session from 5 pm – 7 pm will include entertainment from Asian groups such as a dragon dance and a lion dance, a “Bollywood” dance group, Korean dancers and drummers, drummers from Japan, and potentially Pacific Islander dancers, among other performers.  We hope to have Afghans perform as well.

United Nations Assistant Secretary General Judy Cheng-Hopkins and Consul General Hirofumi Murabayashi of Japan will address the group.  There will be several videos, including one produced by AARP about the contributions of the AAPI community in the United States. In addition, we will honor several people: a student; someone from the cultural world (Sutapa Ghosh for 14 years of the Indian Film Festival); and at least one more leader.
