The Brays Oaks, Southwest and International management districts have given their official support to a local effort to obtain state and federal funding for the redevelopment of the Ruffino Hills site bordered on the north by Keegans Bayou in southwest Houston.
The vacant 143 acres of land include the long-closed household waste landfill for West University and Bellaire and grading from a former golf course.
Proposed plans for the site include bayou flood control, a nature park and mixed-use commercial development.
