Tropical Depression 8 has now strengthened into Tropical Storm Hanna. On average, a hurricane season’s eighth named storm doesn’t develop until late September, making Hanna two months ahead of schedule.
The trajectory and intensity of the storm may change by the time you read this, but please take safety precautions for this weekend.
With more than 6,000 miles of stormwater drainage in the City, the City of Houston would also greatly appreciate your help in checking local ditches, inlets, and gutters to make sure they are free from litter and debris by the end of today. Please also remember to secure any items which might be washed or blown into the stormwater system and report any street or structural flooding to 311.
The Office of Emergency Management, along with TxDOT and Public Works, has produced a map detailing the locations of flood-prone roadways and underpasses drivers may want to avoid during a heavy rain event. Please feel free to share this with your family, friends, and neighbors.
