The Human Resources Department is gearing up for one of the City’s most exciting initiatives – The 2020 Summer Jobs Program (SJP), which provides an invaluable “learning and earning” experience for youth, ages 16-24. The SJP targets youth who reside primarily in Houston’s low/moderate income areas. This program provides us with an excellent opportunity to expose young people to the world of municipal operations and careers. SJP participants undergo Job Readiness Training before being deployed to City work sites, and show up ready to work and eager to learn.
The application process is now open through March 20th. Positions are for 32 hours per week, at $9 per hour. To be eligible to participate in the program youth must be between the ages of 16 and 24 by June, and live in a City of Houston (council district). Youth must be able to work between June 8th and July 30th, and work at least 32 hours per week.
