COUNTY CLERK IS PREPARED FOR DISPLACED VOTERS
Primary Election Information for Voters Displaced by Harvey
Houston, TX – Harris County Clerk Stan Stanart announced today that sample ballots, Early Voting locations, and a preliminary list of Election Day polling locations for the March 6, 2018 Democratic and Republican Primary Elections are now available at the elections website www.HarrisVotes.com.
“I strongly encourage voters to prepare for the upcoming election by visiting HarrisVotes.com, especially voters who have temporarily relocated due to flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey,” said Stanart, the chief election officer of the County.
Harris County voters who have been displaced by Harvey are advised to vote early at any one of the 46 early voting locations in the county starting on Tuesday, February 20.
Some voters may have received a notice from the Tax Assessor-Collector & Voter Registrar that they are on suspense due to their voter registration card being returned undeliverable. Suspense voters are fully eligible to vote, even while they are on suspense. The simple solution for voters on suspense is to complete a Statement of Residency (SOR) form to verify their address when they are at the polling location, either at an early voting location or on Election Day at their designated poll. Shortly after the election, the Voter Registrar will update the voter’s status, removing them from suspense.
All voters are encouraged to vote early, especially in a Primary Election. Due to the nature of Primary Elections, many voters will be voting at a different Election Day location than where they voted in the last November Election.
“During the Primary Election cycle, the major political parties conduct their elections simultaneously. The political parties determine where their polling locations are located and the number of polling locations available to voters on Election Day, as well as the personnel that conduct the elections,” informed Stanart. Unlike Early Voting, voters who choose to vote on Election Day must vote at the voting location where the precinct where they are registered is voting.
Voters may view a personal sample ballot, find their early voting and Election Day polling locations, review the list of acceptable forms of identification to vote at their poll, and obtain information about voting by mail at www.HarrisVotes.com. Voters may also call 713.755.6965 for more information.
Stan Stanart is the Clerk, Recorder and the Chief Elections Officer of the third largest county in the United States.
