Good Things For Crain and Lansdale Parks…

As school is about to start up again, and with Fall just around the corner, September is gearing up to be a busy month for District J!

I hope you can join me at  the Lansdale Community Center on Thursday, September 11th at 6:30pm, to learn more about planned renovations for Lansdale & Crain Parks. Representatives from the Parks Department will be present to unveil design plans for a new Water Spray Play Area at Lansdale and walking trail at Crain. These improvements are being funded from the $1 million I was able to secure from the Sharpstown Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (Sharpstown TIRZ).

In addition to discussing the budget and scope of each project, there will be time for public comment and a question and answer session. We will also discuss efforts to organize an advocacy and fund-raising group for our Sharpstown Parks.

I look forward to seeing you there.

Thank You,

New Development at S. Rice & Westpark

The new 3.5 acre Shoppes at Uptown Crossing development will include both the relocated Micro Center and a new 177,500 sq. ft. Walmart Supercenter. Located across the street from Sam’s Club, the shopping center will also include a Marriott TownPlace Suites hotel and a Starbucks, Chick-Fil-A, Jack in the Box, and El Pollo Loco. Construction for the development commenced in July.

Sharpstown Water Main Replacement

Construction recently began on a water main replacement project in Sharpstown Country Club Terrace 3.

Resicom is the construction company handling this $3 million project.

Over 30,000 feet of water pipe are scheduled to be replaced. The project is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2015.

Expanded Ban on Public Smoking

Starting September 2nd, all Houston parks and libraries will be smoke-free, as part of an expansion of the City’s current smoking ban which passed, at City Council on July 23rd. The ban is already in effect at the Houston Public Library downtown.
