The 2014 Alief ISD Teachers of the Year were recently named in an exciting ceremony at Taylor High School.
Trustees honored each building Teacher of the Year, and the seven finalists were presented to the audience.
Carlos Pierson, a physical education teacher at Boone Elementary, was named the Elementary Teacher of the Year. Mr. Pierson has seven years of teaching experience and is also sponsor/mentor of the Making Great Men Club at the campus. Working in public education is in Mr. Pierson’s blood as his parents served a combined 66 years in education in Louisiana.
Roxanna Barnes, from Taylor High School, was named the Secondary Teacher of the Year. Ms. Barnes teaches theatre arts and is the department chair of the Performing Arts Department. She has 14 years of teaching experience and believes in creating a positive learning environment and providing her students with the communication skills needed in everyday life.
It is always a special occasion to honor educators who give so much of themselves to teach our children.
