The International District is proud to be a Charter Sponsor of the 1st Annual Lunar New Year Parade. Director of Services, Brian Burks and International District Community Volunteer Ralph Daniel will fly the district’s colors leading a motorcycle procession. “This will be a great event for the Alief/International District area and we hope everyone in the community will come out in support of the parade,” says Brian Burks.

For the first time, the Tet Lunar New Year will be celebrated in Houston with a parade down Bellaire Blvd. On Saturday, February 1st at 10 AM, the parade will march west on Bellaire Blvd from Turtlewood Drive to Cook Road. Community organizations, veterans groups, including The Buffalo Soldiers, local businesses, and elected officials are among the parade participants.

“Houston has one of the largest Vietnamese-American communities in the nation,” said parade organizer Texas State Representative Hubert Vo. “I hope this parade will be the first of many in our city because we are anxious to share our history and culture with all the residents of Houston. It also gives us the opportunity to honor both the Vietnamese and American veterans who sacrificed so much.”

Tet Lunar New Year is a traditional Vietnamese holiday celebrating the start of the new lunar year. It is a special time for us to reunite with family, renew special friendships, remember the past and prepare for the future,” said Representative Vo. “This parade will give us the opportunity to celebrate as a city and share our good wishes with all the residents of Houston.”

We invite all residents to attend the parade. There will be good viewing along Bellaire Blvd. from Turtlewood Drive to Cook Road. Representative Hubert Vo will give opening remarks from the Main Stage at the Vietnamese Memorial Monument at 11360 Bellaire at 9:45 AM. Parade participants will be announced as they pass the Main Stage.
