Superintendent Dr. Anthony Mays’ Week Ahead – October 28, 2025

Dr. Mays

Alief Proud is on Saturday and I am excited and hope that everyone comes out and has a great time celebrating our schools, students, and everything that makes Alief ISD a special place. We have several campuses that will be prepared to share information about their unique offerings including Albright and Olle Middle School and their dynamic Fine Arts and STEM opportunities. The Young Women’s Leadership School whose application launches in November will also be present to share more information! As we increase the number of school choice opportunities, our families can take advantage of finding more information here about what is happening in Alief ISD.

It is an exciting time of year with Early Voting season upon us. I recently took care of my civic duty and encourage everyone to go out and perform theirs too and make time to vote! Our Alief Central Administration Building, located at 4250 Cook Road, is one of several early voting sites in the district. You can learn more about other available voting sites here.

I am excited about this year! I am excited to “Be all in with Alief ISD!”

Alief ISD MVP 2025-2026 Awards Nomination Form

Each month, one student, two teachers, and two support staff will be selected as an MVP Award winner by their peers.

These winners are chosen based on evidence of their support of customer service and positive climate and culture in Alief ISD, and they will be celebrated during our next regular board meeting.

We encourage our stakeholders to submit the MVP Award Submission.

In this episode of ImpactED, Chief of Communications, Kristyn Cathey, sits down with Glenn Jarrett, Director of Maintenance, Vinson Lewis, Assistant Superintendent of Support Services, and Clem Medina, LAN Program Manager, to discuss the exciting Alief ISD projects on the rise and how they’re shaping the future of the district.

On Saturday, Alief ISD Board Members joined the Alief Super Neighborhood Council to honor the life and legacy of Barbara Quattro with a memorial ceremony. Her dedication to the Alief community continues to grow and inspire.

Thank you to Council Member Edward Pollard and the Houston Police Department for bringing the PEACE Pep Rally with wellness and positivity to Landis Elementary. Students participated in yoga, mindfulness, and movement-based activities designed to promote connection, relaxation, and overall well-being. We’re grateful for community partners who help nurture the mind, body, and heart of our Alief family!

For the fourth year in a row, Alief ISD has earned Energy Star Building Certifications, with an incredible 32 buildings recognized in 2025 alone! This achievement reflects our ongoing commitment to energy efficiency, sustainability, and a brighter future for our students and community.

Huge congratulations to the Elsik Marching Band for earning Division 1 ratings with their incredible show Awakening Spirit! The performance captured themes of renewal, strength, and the power within us all.

Big things are happening in Alief ISD! On Monday, we officially broke ground on the new Agriculture Center, a place where students will gain real-world experience in agriculture, animal science, and environmental studies. Set to open in October 2026, this center will give our students the tools to grow their passions from the ground up!

Our Purpose

The purposes of the International District are to enhance the physical, social and economic well being of the community. The District is empowered to finance projects related to public safety, mobility and transportation, environmental and urban design, and business and economic development.

Our Service Plan

Projects for the first ten years will focus on mobility and transportation, environmental and urban design, public safety, and business development.

Our Projects

The International Management District is undergoing a transformation from being the western extension of Houston’s Chinatown or, as some prefer, Asiatown, to a broader American and international community ideally suited to working, shopping, dining and living. To help bring about this change, the District has several major improvement projects underway or planned to enhance mobility, attractiveness and quality of life in the community.
