The Alief Jazz Ballet received Best in Contemporary, Best in Hip Hop, Best Story Telling and Top Duet/Trio from the 2016 West Coast Elite (WCE) Dance Championship. The group was named second place grand champions for this regional competition.

Thirteen Alief ISD art students received top honors from the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo District Rodeo Art Contest. The winning pieces will be on display at the rodeo at NRG Park in March.

The Alief ISD varsity boys and girls swim teams each advanced five swimmers to the Region VI Championship Meet after competing at the District Championship at Ness Natatorium. The varsity swimmers qualified for regionals in the Girls 200 Yard Medley Relay, Boys 200 Yard Medley Relay, Girls 200 Yard Freestyle Relay and Boys 200 Yard Freestyle Relay. Hastings High School students Lindsay Baldwin qualified for the 100 Yard Breaststroke, while Adrian Wong qualified for the 100 Yard Freestyle.

Kerr High School students Julianne Escanan, Hannah Bilski, Faye Thai and Dominique Dinh performed after the Houston Symphony Orchestra’s 2016-2017 season announcement at Jones Hall. The students make up the Kerr Cambiata String Quartet.

Alief ISD graduate Michael Bennett was named Defensive MVP during this year’s NFL Pro-Bowl in Hawaii. Bennett, who plays for the Seattle Seahawks, graduated from Taylor in 2004 and previously attended Mahanay, Albright and Elsik.
