Superintendent HD Chambers was recently recognized by the Houston City Council. Council Member Richard Nguyen and Vice Mayor Pro-Tem Jerry Davis declared November 18, 2014 as HD Chambers Day. The proclamation, which was signed by Mayor Annise Parker, was presented to Chambers for being selected as the Region 4 Superintendent of the Year. He was also recognized for his contributions to the Alief community and to our youth.

Alief ISD Technology Integrator Ashley May was published in the November 2014 editionn of TechEdge, a leading journal by Texas Computer Education Association that is focused on technology and education. May shared tips on using technology in the classroom.

Alief Early College High School teachers Leann Looney, Wanda Harrell and Eric Byers were recognized by the Houston Texans and First Community Credit Union as being Stars in the Classroom. Texans linebacker Brian Cushing surprised the teachers, who were nominated by their students for their positive impact in the classroom.

Hastings High School art students and teachers continued the tradition of participating in the Via Colori Street Painting Festival. Daisy Fuentes, who was the campus winner, worked on a six by six foot square, while Stacey Castellanos and AJ Salas shared a ten by ten foot square. Teachers Elinor Smith and Terry Kenefic worked together on a square.

Many Alief ISD high school students competed in the Texas State Thespian Festival and qualified for national competitions in Nebraska this summer.
