Fifteen Alief ISD student athletes announced their commitments on National Signing Day. Congratulations to the following students:

  • Elsik High School: Dontavious Jackson (Florida State University), Chris Brown (The University of Texas at Austin), Javante Hubbard (Rice University), Aaron Jackson (Texas A&M University-Kingsville), Amorama Noel (The University of Texas at El Paso), Ernest “EJ” Davis (Navarro College), Jimmie Banks (Navarro College), Devin Henderson (Coffeyville Community College) and Nicolas Castleberry (Coffeyville Community College)
  • Hastings High School: Temisan Kuyatsemi (Abilene Christian University), Chris Mayes (Texas Institute of Agriculture & Technology), Jhonte’ Hawkins (Texas Institute of Agriculture & Technology) and Ladarren Williams (Texas Institute of Agriculture & Technology)
  • Taylor High School: Louis Hamilton (Navarro College) and Benjie Franklin (Navarro College)

The Alief ISD Maintenance Department was recently awarded the Environmental Stewardship Award from Tandus Centiva, the company that provides carpeting to the district. As old carpet is removed from Alief facilities, it is recycled into new flooring products. Alief ISD has recycled 56,468 pounds of old carpet.

Holmquist Elementary teacher Dr. Sergio Reyna (Elementary Bilingual), Martin Elementary teacher Evelyn Corleto (Elementary ESL) and Elsik Ninth Grade Center teacher Izabel Hlayhel (Secondary ESL) were recently announced as the Alief ISD Houston Area Association for Bilingual Education (HAABE) Teachers of the Year. These three educators will represent the district at the HAABE Bilingual/ESL Teacher of the Year Awards Ceremony in April.

Alief ISD students received 46 Gold Key, Silver Key and Honorable Mention recognitions from The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards of Harris County. Gold Key winners will compete at the national level. Congratulations to our Gold Key recipients:

  • Elsik High School: Ejovi Obus, Bao Pham, Jailene Reyes, Milla Storey and Cristina Villasenor
  • Kerr High School: Emmanuel Valencia
  • Taylor High School: Zayan Ali and Huy Le

Congratulations to the winners of the Alief ISD Sixth Grade District Science Fair:

  • First Place (tie): Tammy Dang (Mata) and Kevin Tran (Mata)
  • Second Place: Melissa Luna (Mata)
  • Third Place (tie): Gabriela Gonzalez (Budewig) and Jessica Nguyen (Youngblood)

The Alief ISD T-STEM Academies were recently recognized by the Galveston Bay Foundation. The schools were honored for their contribution in saving the coast with the assistance of district business partner CITGO.
