Dear Residents and Friends of District F,

It’s hard to believe the holiday season is already upon us and that the year is coming to an end. Looking back, I have much to be grateful for this year: good health, family, friends, and the privilege to represent my community on Houston City Council.

Bellaire West Drainage Project near Completion

The city and the project contractor are in the process of wrapping up the Bellaire West drainage project. Work began earlier this year to improve drainage and reduce the risk of structural flooding in the area. Streets, curbs and sidewalks were also replaced. I appreciate the residents’ patience during this process. The remaining step is restoring power to the street lights, owned and managed by CenterPoint Energy, which we expect to occur in the coming days. My office has already communicated with CenterPoint to expedite the process.

Bellaire Blvd. Construction Suspended for Holidays

As a reminder, construction on Bellaire Blvd. will be suspended during the December holidays and Lunar New Year, from Dec. 15, 2012 through Feb. 18, 2013. Crews will shut down construction activities to allow holiday traffic and shoppers as much unrestricted access to businesses as possible. I urge motorists to continue to drive cautiously through the area and abide by all posted traffic signs.

Westside Officers Catch 3 Armed Robbers in the Act

Last month, officers with HPD’s Westside Patrol assisted HPD robbery investigators in the arrests of three suspects believed to be responsible for committing at least nine robberies in a nine-day period. The suspects targeted victims as they were using ATMs in bank parking lots on Westheimer in districts F and G. While conducting surveillance operations, alert HPD Westside officers caught the suspects in the act as they robbed another citizen at an ATM. The suspects were apprehended after leading officers on a short vehicle pursuit.

The District F office has had the opportunity to work with Westside officers on several outreach initiatives and we have seen firsthand the high level of dedication and professionalism they exhibit as they protect our community. I commend and congratulate those officers on a job well done!

HFD’s “Operation Stocking Stuffer” Underway

Houston Fire Department’s “Operation Stocking Stuffer Toy Drive” is once again in full gear. Now through December 18, you can donate a new, unwrapped toy to any HFD fire station. Our office has collected several toys which we will be delivering to District F stations next week. You can find more information on “Operation Stocking Stuffer” in the section below.

I hope everyone has a blessed holiday season and a healthy and prosperous new year!

Respectfully,
