Alief volunteers embark on parks cleanup

Alief residents volunteered to plant 200 trees in Hackberry Park in January, and cleaned up in Alief Community Park on Saturday, Feb. 26.
Alief Super Neighborhood Council President Barbara Quattro hopes volunteer parks projects like these can start happening on a regular basis in all of the area’s parks.
“Since the city has no money and has furloughed workers, we would like to clean up the parks at least once a month,” Quattro says. For last weekend’s Alief Park project, Quattro says, “I think we had about 75 kids, plus mothers who came as adult volunteers.”
Organizers have yet to set a date for the next park cleanup. “We’re thinking once a month, rotating the four parks in AliefHackberry, Harwin, Boone Road, Alief Community Park,” Quattro says.
