Friends, As we anticipate a cold front and spend more time outside, I want to share several updates from City Hall and across our council district. NATIONAL NIGHT OUT 2026 Ain’t no party like a National Night Out party on the westside! We had a blast connecting with neighborhoods across District F—and enjoying all of the food—as we worked to advance public safety throughout our communities. For those of you who shared concerns about your water bill or streetlights, please report the issue to 311 and send the service request number to our office so we can work toward a resolution. Do not delay. And be sure to check out some of the photos from National Night Out at the bottom of the newsletter. Shout-out to Panda in Tanglewilde. 3RD ANNUAL FAITH & AFFORDABLE HOUSING SUMMIT Last Saturday was phenomenal, and I want to thank all the partners who supported us and the participants who took advantage of the available resources, networking, and information. As we work to address affordable housing and invest in our neighborhoods, we will need every partner at the table. Participants will receive an email from my office today with additional opportunities to stay engaged. TAX RATE We voted not to raise the City’s tax rate from .51 to .55, the allowable maximum. While this will reduce the amount of revenue available to the City, it should also provide some financial relief to residents managing limited funds and higher expenses. COUNCIL DISTRICT SERVICE FUND PROJECTS We currently have 24 funded projects—including sidewalks, speed cushions, and panel replacements—that have been delayed over the last two and a half fiscal years (FY24, FY25, and FY26). Of the 24 projects, the sidewalk project on Stoney Brook began October 5 and is expected to be completed in November. Houston Public Works has committed to moving quickly on the remaining projects, and my office will continue tracking their progress. MIDTERM ELECTIONS Early voting begins Monday, October 19, and continues through October 30. I want to encourage each of you to prioritize voting—and bring two people with you. We have one of the lowest voter-turnout districts in the city, and that can change. Harris County has an exceptionally long ballot this cycle, so please take the time to review the candidates and research their positions before you arrive at the polls. If you are unclear about a race or position, consult trusted, nonpartisan resources such as the League of Women Voters’ Voters Guide. Bring a valid ID, identify your voting location, and review your sample ballot in advance at HarrisVotes.org. FALL 2026 VIRTUAL COMMUNITY MEETING Last spring, we packed the Alief Neighborhood Center to discuss priorities related to homelessness, down payment assistance, public facilities, and the use of federal funds. Now, you can join the conversation virtually on Wednesday, October 21, from 3:00–5:00 p.m. Login details are included below. ALIEF ISD SCHOOL OPTIMIZATION MEETINGS Alief ISD is hosting a series of meetings to share its findings regarding possible school closures. I encourage you to attend and share your feedback openly while allowing the District to share its vision for the existing sites. I will see you Thursday, October 22, at Olle Middle School to listen and lend my support. DOTY LANDFILL / SUGAR HILL GOLF COURSE I am hosting a special community discussion on the status of the former Doty Landfill/Sugar Hill Golf Course on Tuesday, October 27, at 6:00 p.m. at the Alief Neighborhood Center. The 132-acre property was acquired in 2019, and the developer will join us to provide an update on the proposed plans. Please join me.
